Kaniva College holds a Presentation Evening at the end of each year for students from Years 5 to 12. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the efforts and achievements of our students. The awards that are given out are as follows:
PREP – YEAR 12
Westech Ag / Kyle Livestock Agri-Smart Award
The Westech Ag / Kyle Livestock Agri-Smart Award, with $50 donated by Kyle Livestock, is open to any student from Prep to Year 12.
The criteria for this award are as follows:
This student displays outstanding responsibility for the welfare of animals
This student displays outstanding initiative in developing agricultural projects
This student displays outstanding team work skills and is a positive role model
This student displays outstanding dedication, including time and effort outside of school hours, to maintain and support agricultural projects at the college farm
YEAR 4
Joy Austin Award
This award is for a Year 4 student.
The student should demonstrate the school values of creativity, leadership, endeavour and respect.
The student demonstrates a desire to achieve their best.
YEAR 5 - 12
Subject Awards
Subject Awards are presented to Year 5 to 12 students who achieved the highest results in each subject, at every year level.
Endeavour Awards
In Year 5 to 12, Endeavour Awards are presented in subjects to a student who works consistently over the year to achieve the best results possible.
Individual Sports Awards
Sports Awards are presented to students from Years 5 to 12 who have achieved the highest level of each sport. The awards are taken from the results of WSSSA, Wimmera, Western Zone and State level, whichever is the highest level achieved by any individual student. If there are multiple students competing at a high level, the awards are similarly presented.
Victorian High-Ability Program
This award acknowledges students who took part in the Victorian High-Ability Program for English or Maths throughout the year.
Travis & Millie Carter Fine Arts Drawing and Painting Award
This award is presented to a student from Year 5 to12 who has shown potential, commitment and growth in their painting and drawing skills.
The criteria for this award are as follows:
The student has demonstrated a desire to improve their fine arts skill with regards to painting and drawing
The student has applied themselves in Visual Arts and is improving their technical skill throughout the year, in and outside the classroom
The student has shown promise in fine arts and specifically, painting and drawing
Materials Technology Award
This award recognises a student from Year 5 to 12 who has demonstrated an aptitude for woodwork and metalwork.
LINK Neighbourhood House Information Technology Award
This award is given to recognise a student from year 5 to 12 who shows great potential in the information technology area.
YEAR 5 - 6
Golden Watering Can
This award acknowledges students who excelled in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program throughout the year.
Geoff Lord Award
This award is for a Year 5 student.
The student shows and interest in problem solving activities which involve risk-taking and investigation.
Kate Wallis Friend of the School
This award is presented to a Year 6 student who is always kind and respectful to fellow students, teachers and others helping at the school.
The criteria for this award are as follows:
· Always willing to help
· Never complain when things get tough
· Always ready to play with someone if that person is being left out or lonely.
YEAR 7 - 10
Overall Academic Achievement
The overall academic achievement award is presented to the DUX of each year level (7-10). This is the student who achieves the overall highest result for all subjects studied.
T. R. Meyer Memorial Claybird Shooting Award
This award is given to the best all round sports person in the discipline of claybird shooting. The recipient is to demonstrate high enthusiasm and good sportsmanship while representing the College.
The criteria for this award are as follows:
Demonstrated sportsmanship
Willingness to participate
A good shot, although this is not the most significant criteria, as emphasis is upon sportsmanship and dedication
YEAR 7 - 12
IJ Kennett/KLUFNC Sports Award
This award recognises the student from year 7-12 who has achieved a high level of success in more than one sport. Where there is more than one student in this category, the award goes to the student who has achieved the highest placing in these sports.
The criteria for this award are as follows:
The student should participate in sport throughout the entire year
The student should exhibit sportsmanship qualities at all times
The student should be dedicated and cooperative towards building College spirit and willing to participate and offer services to any team
The student should have demonstrated some outstanding ability in sports but not necessarily the best in any one team
YEARS 8 – 10
Bones Butchery Foods and Catering Award
Award Criteria:
This award recognises a student from Year 8, 9, or 10 who demonstrates exceptional potential, commitment, and growth in their food handling and preparation skills.
Criteria for Selection:
Academic Excellence: The student must maintain high academic standing in relevant subjects, showcasing a strong understanding of food science and culinary practices.
Work Ethic and Cooperation: The student should display a willingness to go above and beyond in their studies and practical work. They should be hardworking, cooperative, and a positive influence in group settings.
Technical Skills: The student must effectively use specialised equipment and refine their techniques to produce high-quality food products that meet detailed specifications. This includes a keen eye for presentation and adherence to safety and hygiene standards.
YEAR 10
Year 10 Mallee Excellence Award
The student selected for this award:
· Should demonstrate leadership skills
· Demonstrate excellence in attitude and achievement
· Commitment to both the school and community activities
· Ability to exhibit awareness of others and their own needs

These awards recognise a student in Year Ten and Year Twelve who demonstrates innovation and learning in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. They are the next generation of innovators, critical thinkers and problem solvers.

The awards program for Year Ten and Year Twelve has been created to acknowledge the achievements of young people, who have demonstrated outstanding qualities of leadership and teamwork either within our school or the wider community. Leadership and teamwork is underpinned by qualities such as supporting others and doing the best you can, which are values the ADF shares with the broader community.

These awards recognise a student in Year Ten and Year Twelve who demonstrates innovation and learning in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. They are the next generation of innovators, critical thinkers and problem solvers.
UNIT 1 & 2 (Year 11)
Insight Year 11 English Award
This award, which includes a whole range of Year 12 VCE English resources, has been supported by Insight Publishing. The recipient should have made significant progress during the academic year, although not necessarily be the highest achiever, and be perceived by teachers to be someone who would make the most of the award as they go into Unit 3/4 English.
GWM Science and Innovation Award
This award is presented to a high achieving year 11 student in the areas of science and innovation.
UNIT 3 & 4 (Year 12)
Australian Defence Force Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Award
The awards program for Year Ten and Year Twelve has been created to acknowledge the achievements of young people, who have demonstrated outstanding qualities of leadership and teamwork either within our school or the wider community. Leadership and teamwork is underpinned by qualities such as supporting others and doing the best you can, which are values the ADF shares with the broader community.
Australian Defence Force Future Innovators Awards
These awards recognise a student in Year Ten and Year Twelve who demonstrates innovation and learning in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. They are the next generation of innovators, critical thinkers and problem solvers.
Ampol Best All Rounder Award
This award recognises a student in Year 11 or 12 for achievement in a range of activities, from sport and academics, to conduct and leadership. It is not intended to recognise a champion with a specialty in one area who already receives acclaim, rather, it is intended for someone who participates in a wide range of College activities.
The specific criteria are as follows:
Academic Scholastic achievement across a range of subjects
Attitude Willingness to assist others, makes selfless contributions and committed to excellence
Conduct Outstanding at all times
Leadership Role model to other students
Service Participates in school and community activities
Sport Represents the school in sport
Arts Participates enthusiastically in the cultural and artistic life of the school
R. G. Hicks Memorial /Shire of West Wimmera Citizenship Award
This award is made to a mature, well-adjusted young adult, who exhibits a willingness to accept responsibility and to take on and efficiently perform duties beyond the normal expectations of students. This is generally awarded to a Year 11 or 12 award.
Some of the qualities which are looked for are:
· a willingness to accept positions of responsibility
· a willingness to participate in school activities
· the setting of a mature example in that the successful awardee interacts well with staff, peers and younger children
· a willingness to assist in tasks beneficial to the school community
· involvement in community activities
· the setting of a positive example regarding sound and responsible attitudes to study
The University of South Australia- Mount Gambier School Achievement Dux Award
This award is sponsored by The University of South Australia- Mount Gambier and is presented to the Year 12 who achieved at the highest level on school-based assessment.
Wheaton Family ATAR Award
This award is presented by the family of Vern & Joanne Wheaton and is given to the student who attains the highest ATAR. This score is provided by the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre and is determined by adding the scaled study scores of the top four subjects plus a percentage of up to two others.
Applied Learning Dux Award
This award will now be awarded on merit annually to a student who has demonstrated excellence in their VCE VM program, shown growth in their demonstration of employability skills, meaningfully explored and pursued their pathway options and made a positive impact within their community.
The Principal’s Dux Award
This award is sponsored by the principal and is presented to the Dux of Year 12, based on raw score calculations contributing towards the VCE certificate.
HOUSE AWARDS
Golden Ticket Best House Shield
Awarded to the House that has received the most Golden Tickets throughout the year.
House Cup
Awarded to the House that has the highest scores over all school-based sporting events (Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country).
House Cup for Academic Work
Awarded to the House that has received the highest level of academic achievement throughout the year.
Avelyn Coutts Cup for Best House
Awarded to the House that has received the most overall points for the year.
SCHOOL CAPTAINS
At the Presentation Evening the Junior and Senior School Captains are also announced.
