Kaniva College will be continuing with its Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program for  Digital Learning Devices in 2026 for Years 7 to 12. Students that were provided with a   laptop during 2021 as part of the “Bridging the Digital Divide (BDD)”, will be permitted to continue using their current BDD laptop at home and at school as per the current  arrangement. The purchase of a new laptop for Year 7 to 12 students is not compulsory. Support of BDD laptops will continue to be provided by the College, as issues arise, as best as possible, except for physical damage. However, with the recent discontinuation of  security updates for Windows 10, all laptops within the school are required to be operating Windows 11. For many of these BDD laptops, their hardware is incompatible with
Windows 11 or operate very slowly.
Edunet has again been chosen as the preferred provider for BYOD devices for 2026. While families are not required to purchase devices from Edunet, the amount of support that can be provided by the school for devices purchased from a retail store or alternative providers will be limited. Families should find Edunet’s prices to be very competitive, with insurance and finance options available. All Edunet devices have a 3 Year onsite warranty that will be required as part of purchasing from them. Given the school is running with a primarily Windows infrastructure, we strongly recommend students purchase devices  running Windows, rather than Apple products. While there are order cut off dates for pre-Christmas and Day 1, Term 1 2026 delivery, devices can be ordered via the Edunet BYOD Portal 365 days a year, with deliveries made on a weekly basis, as needed. The Kaniva College BYOD Portal can be accessed at http://kanivacollege.technologyportal.com.au
Students currently in Year 6 moving into Year 7 can choose to use their BDD device at school. If this option is being selected, students need to bring their laptop and charger to school before the end of November to have its compatibility with Windows 11 checked and have the necessary setup changes made to their laptop to allow the laptop to be set up again for use on the school network.
All students in Years 7 to 12 will be expected to bring their device to school on a daily basis to use across the day. When students fail to bring their device to school, or their device is being repaired, a loan machine will be made available. Loan machines will need to be collected at the start of the day and returned before leaving school for the day. Loan  machines will not be permitted to leave the school.
BYOD devices will not have the Department of Education and Training (DET) image  installed that students have been accustomed to. BYOD devices will come with a ‘clean install’ of Windows, with students required to download and install software required for their classes for free from the DET website using the College’s Internet.
Before using any BYOD in the school, a BYOD User Agreement must be signed by the  student and Parent/Guardian. While BYODs are not owned by the school, the DET  Acceptable use policy must be adhered to, and any material stored on or accessed using the device is subject to review by College staff.
